Girl Scout Film Project Chronicles Violence in Video Games

For all the fun and great things the video game industry has going for it, one thing that is often overlooked or downplayed is the violence factor. From GamePolitics.com:

When last we heard from the Girl Scouts in relation to video game issues, they were standing behind California’s Leland Yee following passage of the state’s 2005 video game law.

But, as reported by the Woodbury Bulletin, a Minnesota Girl Scout has a much different view on video game regulation. Colleen Stone, who created a 10-minute video on game content issues, told the newspaper:

Grand Theft Auto 4 Sales

After the first week, Grand Theft Auto IV sales have doubled sales of Spiderman 3 (top opening weekend film ever) over the first 10 days of it’s showing. GTA 4 grossed about $500 million in its first week, while Spiderman 3 took in $240 million over its first 10 days. That is proof that the video game industry is still on the rise, and isn’t showing any signs of slowing down.

The $500 GTA did in its first week also broke the record for the previous leader in first week sales. Halo 3 did $300 million in its first week.
